Quarterback Kenneth Bronson and Northern Heights’ spread offense put up their most explosive performance of the season at Lyndon on Friday night, as Bronson threw for 423 yards and the Wildcats routed the Tigers 65-40.
Bronson completed 23 of 28 passes with six TDs and also ran for 84 yards and two scores, giving him 507 total yards of offense. His favorite targets were senior Roman Murray and sophomore Nick Mendez. Murray burned the Tigers for 178 yards on eight catches and four TDs, and Mendez had seven catches for 162 yards and two scores.
“They had a good night,” Heights co-coach Tad Hatfield said. “They were getting behind the defenders at times, and Kenny was finding ’em and hit ’em both well — split it pretty good between the two of ’em.”
Bronson’s TD runs went for 50 yards in the second quarter and for 12 yards in the fourth. Cody Britton added to the Wildcats’ rushing attack with 66 yards.
“We’ve been focusing on defense all week, and defensively, we only gave up one touchdown in the first half, which I thought was key,” Hatfield said. “But our special teams and... turnovers got us in the first half, with scoring on their part.”
“... And then second half, we let ’em score quite a bit, but (the) offense (was) coming back, bouncing back and being able to score when we needed to.”
Lyndon running back Shea Kirsop ran for four scores.

Olpe 62, Sedan 8
Olpe didn’t take long to ruin Sedan’s morale.
Sedan went backwards on its first three plays of the game and Olpe scored on a safety. The Eagles followed the safety with a 48-yard pass to Bradley Argabright from Matt Redeker on their first play from scrimmage.
“I thought we set the tone early on defense with the safety right off the bat,” Olpe coach Chris Schmidt said.
Olpe running back Cole Krueger led nine Olpe rushers with 173 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Krueger has run for 783 yards in five games this season.
“Cole’s running well and he’s getting the numbers, but probably the kids that are doing the best job is the line,” Schmidt said.
The Olpe backs ran for 347 yards and Redeker threw for 82 yards, completing 4-of-5 passes. The Olpe defense held Sedan to 78 yards rushing and 88 yards total.
“Defensively we did a good job not allowing them to run the ball,” Schmidt said, “and that’s what they wanted to do.”
Olpe improved to 5-0 and has yet to be tested this season. Schmidt has taken to evaluating performances by what his team can improve on from week to week. Friday he was happy that his team had zero turnovers for the first time all season.
“That’s a big thing we’ve been saying. We need to take care of ourselves and not worry about our opponents,” Schmidt said. “We need to get better every night. ... “I think our emotion has been good at the beginning of the games. I think that’s a big advantage when you can put some doubt in the other team’s mindset.”

Madison 52, Southern Coffey County 6
It would be interesting to see what Madison’s offense could do in four full quarters of football.
The Bulldogs haven’t let it get to that since Week 2. Southern Coffey County was Madison’s third straight victim of the mercy rule.
The Titans entered the game Friday looking as though they would maybe be able to contend with the Bulldogs — or at least end the mercy-rule streak. The Titans were 3-1 and had won three straight. But Madison jumped out to a 30-0 lead and never looked back.
The Titans at least provided the Bulldogs with a test in one facet of the game.
“Our defense was tested tonight by a very nice offensive line and it was nice to see that our defense was able to step up and play well against them,” Madison coach Fred McClain said.
Michael Luthi ran for 133 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 5-0 start.
“Our offensive line played really well,” McClain said. “They handled some challenges that SCC threw at us and some different things we hadn’t seen on film.”
Hartford has the lucky task of trying to end Madison’s mercy-rule streak next week, but it doesn’t look good for the Jaguars, who lost on Friday in a mercy-rule game to Crest.

Marmaton Valley 60, Lebo 14
Marmaton Valley used the running back tandem of Ben Biggs and Tom Stinnett to send Lebo home after halftime with a mercy-rule loss.
Stinnett ran for 134 yards in 16 carries, and Biggs added 114 in just six carries.
“I think that obviously, we didn’t do a very good job tackling to start the ballgame,” Lebo coach Butch Jones said. “I think that everybody noticed that. And then... they just pretty well lined up to toe to toe and physically, and it looked like a rugby scrum there for quite awhile: straight ahead, get those big linemen in front of them and then got out. So they just out-physicaled us.”
Lebo scored in the first quarter on a 61-yard pass from Devon Johnson to Adam Laflin and in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Johnson.
Laflin caught two passes for 107 yards for Lebo, which fell to 2-3 on the year.
