NHHS leads area schools at Council Grove Invite

Six area schools sent runners to the Council Grove Invitational cross country event on Thursday, with Northern Heights finishing second in the girls race and Osage City third in the boys race.

Olpe’s Katelyn Henderson finished second individually in the girls run, finishing in 17 minutes, 16.98 seconds, about 20 seconds behind winner Jillian Stratman of Bennington. Heights’ Kimberly Smith finished fourth, and Osage’s Cally Aspegren earned a seventh-place finish. Olpe’s Kelsey Camien finished 11th, and medals also went to Heights’ Jasmine King (12th), D’Lani Holland of Lebo (16th), Amy Lee (17th) and Gesina Miller (18th) of Heights and Emily Frese of Council Grove (19th).

Osage’s Cole Carlson finished fourth in the boys race, about 29 seconds behind winner Jason Martin of Herington. Olpe’s Ethan Hall (8th) and Colby Nuessen (10th) both earned top-10 spots. Other area medalists included Kyle Stromgren of Osage (13th), Heights’ Justin Heston (14th) and Chris Seematter (16th), and Josh Hagar of Council Grove (17th).

The Osage boys’ 84 points were 32 behind winners Wichita Independent. Olpe finished fourth with 90 points and Heights sixth with 144.
