EMS teachers win

Two Emporia Middle School teachers have been selected to receive state awards from the Kansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Matt Holopirek, physical education teacher at EMS, has been named the 2008 Young Professional by the state association. The award is given to a KAHPERD member who demonstrates leadership and service to the profession during the first five years of membership. Holopirek has been a PE teacher in Emporia since 2006.
Sunnin Keosybounheuang, the health and wellness teacher at EMS, has been selected to receive the 2008 KAHPERD Health Education Professional Award. The award is presented to a teacher with at least five years of experience in a health-related field. She is been an Emporia teacher since 1999.
Both awards will be presented at banquet during the KAHPERD Convention Oct. 30-31 at Emporia State University.
