The Southern Coffey County High School is planning an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to allow World War II veterans to visit their memorial.
Southern Coffey County High School sponsored the first flight in April and is planning the next flight for November 12. Forty-four students showed up for the interest meeting to work to plan the trip. The school is planning two aspects of the trip: Finding World War II veterans who have not been on an honor flight before and people who will make a monetary donation for the trip.
“The Honor Flight is to honor our valued veterans who served our country during the Second World War,” a press release stated. “The trip is provided at not cost to these veterans.”
Donations are needed to offset the cost and will be accepted from businesses, organizations or individuals.
The school is able to take 35 veterans, 15 students, a doctor, a nurse and three school personnel on the trip.
For more information on how to donate or if interested in taking the flight, contact the high school at (620) 964-2217 or the district office at (620) 964-2212.

This is an outstanding program for many reasons, not the least it gives young people a chance to learn about history from those who lived it. I have much admiration for the Southern Coffey County school district, and hope to send them a few bucks to show it.
