Garcia earns scholarship

Thursday, October 2, 2008

Kristen Garcia of Emporia was honored as winner of a $500 Kansas State Civic Leadership Scholarship for books. The scholarships, funded by Farm Bureau Financial Services, are given to K-State freshmen who have demonstrated excellence in serving their communities.

Farm Bureau Financial Services hosted a reception for the scholarship winners, their families and guests during the Family Day celebration Sept. 27 on the K-State campus in Manhattan.

Garcia demonstrated leadership through her involvement in Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow. Over a period of four months, she organized fundraising dinners, a carwash and a silent auction that resulted in more than $3,000 for the scholarship fund to help Hispanic students reach their educational goals.

“The winners for the Civic Leadership Scholarships are to be commended for their commitment to their communities with the many volunteer activities and service hours they have contributed,” said Jim Noyce, chief executive officer of Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company and Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company that provide insurance and financial services in Kansas as Farm Bureau Financial Services. “Their demonstrated leadership is an asset to their schools, their communities and their state, and we are pleased to be able to reward this level of involvement. The value of the time and energy they’ve invested in making a difference for others cannot be measured.”

Through an exclusive, multi-state agent force, the companies affiliated with the Farm Bureau Financial Services brand underwrite, market and distribute a broad range of financial services products, including life insurance, investments, annuities, property-casualty insurance products and services and more, to individuals and small businesses within a marketing territory that includes 15 states.
