Almost 60 years of tradition will be observed on Saturday, Dec. 6, as the First Congregational Church hosts its annual Christmas Brunch and Bazaar from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church, 326th W. 12th Ave.
The event is being organized by the Congregational Women’s Fellowship, under the direction of co-chairpersons Mary Duncan and Sharon Shipley.
“This year, some different and tasty items have been added to the brunch,” said Mary Stauffer, publicity chairman.
The brunch will include breakfast casseroles, waffles, quiche, muffins, coffee cakes, apple fritters, rolls, juice, coffee, cider, tea, and milk. The cost will be $4 per person.
Proceeds are donated each year to a variety of local causes supported by CWF. In the past, those have included the Lyon County Restricted Emergency Fund, Habitat for Humanity, Hand-in-Hand Hospice and other charitable organizations, including church needs.
“We always keep it here,” Stauffer said.
The bazaar will include booths selling an assortment of homemade and other items.
Chairwomen for the different areas are: Evora Wheeler, brunch; Kathy O’Mara and Brenda Taylor, dining room and waitresses; Country Cupboard, Shirley Kusmaul; The Candy Shoppe, Audrey Weller; Bakery, Virginia Faye; books, records, CDs and stationery booth, Lisa Osborn and Joanne Jenks; jewelry, Roxanne Ashlock; knickknacks booth, LeAnne Roberts; raffle, Lesley Draper; Christmas crafts and gift corner, Jane Rodenhouse and Lauralee Hearn.
A raffle is planned to give away a $75 Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce Merchants gift certificate. Donations of $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets is the suggested donation to participate.
