Paying for cancer
treatment
A seasonal theme is being used for fundraising project on behalf of Alicia Redeker of Olpe, who is undergoing treatment for cancer.
“Light the Night,” sponsored by the Olpe High School Student Council, entails collecting money for lights on a Christmas tree in front of OHS. As each $5 contribution is made, a colored light on the tree will be changed to a white light, in the hope that the fund raised will produce a tree filled with white lights.
Donations may be made at Olpe State Bank, Murphy Oil, the Chicken House, or the Olpe high School office. Donations also may be sent to the OHS Student Council, PO Box 206, Olpe KS 66865.
Rebecca Fawcett and Marilyn Stueve sponsor the OHS Student Council.
Child earns reward
A south-central Kansas family is rewarded for turning in $7,000 at a Goodwill store in Wichita.
Earlier this month, 5-year-old kindergartner Claire Dingler of Maize found the cash stuffed in an envelope lying on the floor. She gave the cash to her mother, Ginger Johnson, who turned it in to a store employee.
The owner was tracked down, and he offered his thanks.
But Claire and her mother didn’t get a reward until an anonymous donor heard the story and decided to give Johnson $500. The family also has received gift cards, and one group is preparing a trophy to present to Claire.
Johnson told Wichita TV station KWCH that she is thankful because it has been a hard year.
