The ESU Department of Music calendar includes the Wind and Brass Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Albert Taylor Hall. The A Cappella and Community Chorus concert will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in Albert Taylor Hall. General admission is $5; students and senior citizens, $4. Information: 341-5431.
ESU show
ESU Theatre will perform “Rabbit Hole” by David Lindsay-Abaire, 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre. For tickets, call 341-6378.
Concert opera
Kansas Concert Opera is presenting a “KCO Christmas,” an evening of entertainment for the whole family, at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Granada Theatre. The program features Christmas songs performed by Broadway star Joseph Mahowald, soprano Andrea Garritano, mezzo-soprano Meaghan Dieter and bass-baritone Stanford Felix; a comedy skit in the spirit of an old-time radio show; holiday music by the Flint Hills Brass Quintet; a performance by 14-year-old violin virtuoso Jonathan Dawson; an appearance by William Allen White, played by actor Jack Wright, which brings White back to the stage he inaugurated at its opening in 1929; and much more. The emcee will be Laura Lorson of Kansas Public Radio, who will also present an original Christmas story “in the style of her acclaimed commentaries aired on NPR,” stated the news release.
‘Nutcracker’
The Metropolitan Ballet of Topeka will present “The Nutcracker” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 and 3 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Topeka Performing Arts Center. The role of the Sugar Plum Fairy will be performed by Lauren Tenney, a 20-year-old ballerina in training in New York City. For more information, call (785) 271-0190.
Art gifts
The Emporia Arts Council Art Gifts, 618 Mechanic St., includes glass, ceramics, paintings, textiles, jewelry and wood from more than 50 local and regional artists. Extended hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday through Dec. 30. The EAC will be closed today and Dec. 25 and 26.
