Collecting canned goods
Emporia High School “Charlie Spartan” is asking the community to “pack the pantry” for the Salvation Army by attending the Red and BlacK Wrestling Intra Duel at 7 p.m. Saturday at EHS, stated the news release. Kids Club wrestlers, middle school wrestlers and high school wrestlers are encouraged to attend. Admission will be canned goods and cash donations. For more information, call 341-2365.
Pancakes for supper
The Reading Lions Club is having a pancake supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6 in the basement of the United Methodist Church. The menu includes pancakes, biscuits, gravy, sausage juice and coffee. The price of the meal is by donation. There also will be a drawing for $100, $50 and $20. Tickets for the drawing are $1 each or six for $5. People do not need to be present to win. Proceeds from the meal will be used to provide Christmas treats for children in the community.
Benefit auction
The TFI Family Services 18th annual Holiday Benefit Auction, with the theme of “Light Up a Child’s Life,” will be held Dec. 3 at Best Western Hospitality House in Emporia. The event begins with a social hour and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. after which the live auction will begin at 7 p.m. The honorary co-chairmen are Cliff and Linda Hacker. To donate an item for the auction, call Kent House or Shelley Jenkins at 342-2239 or obtain a donation form at http://www.the -farm.org or www.the-farm-org. TFI is able to to provide children in foster care school participation fees, musical instruments, athletic shoes for a school sport, camp fees, special health needs and other ‘extras’ “many may take for granted,” according to the news release.
