A lifetime of volunteering will be recognized Tuesday night when Emporian Evora Wheeler receives the President’s Call to Service Award during the Kiwanis Club of Emporia’s meeting. The award is earned by people who have given more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service.
Wheeler, a longtime Kiwanis member, is a familiar face around Emporia, thanks to her involvement with the town’s sesquicentennial celebration for which she served as co-chair. She is a former city commissioner and mayor, past president of Emporia Board of Realtors and chair of the St. David’s Day Celebration. For Lyon County Crimestoppers, she serves as president.
Wheeler will receive the award during the weekly Kiwanis meeting. The dinner meeting begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. The meals costs $10 and reservations are required by 5 p.m. Thursday. Space is limited.
For information, contact Virginia Higgins, 340-2466 or higginskiwanis@cableone.net.

I've loved my 2nd mother for more than 30 years - when she was working at the Emporia Chamber and volunteering not only in the community but also mentoring a young woman who felt like part of her family. Congratulations, Evora - and you, too, Ralph! Love, Geri
