Hall of Fame Auction will be Thursday evening

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Staff at the National Teachers Hall of Fame had a pleasant surprise Monday afternoon as they prepared for this week’s 17th annual fundraising auction.

“We just found out that they are overnighting a pair of autographed racing gloves from Clint Bowyer,” said Jenny Harder, director of induction and recognition.

Approximately 160 items will be up for bid Thursday when the auction begins at 6:05 p.m.

The auction will be broadcast on KVOE radio and on CableOne Channel 20, Harder said.

“We’ve combined those into about 66 packages, and that will run our time slot of four hours,” she said. “We were able to combine all the items and make them bigger and more diversified packages.

The silent auction usually held in conjunction with the event has been removed from this year’s activities.

Ron Thomas, Lee Schroeder and Tim Miller will serve as auctioneers for the vacation packages, condo stays, meals, art work and “just a lot of varying and interesting items,” Harder said.

“We’ve got some really nice local donations, like from artists Terry Maxwell and photographer S. C. Dixon ... and a sculpture from John Forsythe,” she said.

“Dr. (Michael) Lane and USD 253 have gone together to give use of the president’s box for the 2009 Emporia High Homecoming, so that will be fun.”

Other loyal auction donors Lindy Whetzel and Sally Conard again have contributed generously, Harder said.

A complete list of auction items will be available to pick up at Room 115 of Visser Hall at Emporia State University, at Emporia’s Radio Stations, CableOne, The Emporia Gazette, Emporia Main Street, Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and the information center at the Memorial Union on campus.

More information may be had by calling Harder at 341-5660.
