Ron Whitney of the Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans said early this afternoon that rain Tuesday morning would keep the Budweiser Clydesdales from participating in the Veterans Day Parade at 9:30 a.m. The National Weather Service says there is a 50 percent chance of rain Tuesday.
The big draft horses are on display today until 6 p.m. at the Public Works Center on Hatcher Street.
Whiney said rain does not affect the horses, but it can damage equipment used in the hitch.

Sounds more like the rain might get the driver wet. I cant believe that a little water is going to harm a hitch.

I am sure that with all the beer they sell that they could afford to buy a new hitch even if it did get ruined!!!

I will defer to those who spend their lives working with the teams that they know best. The tackle used with those horses is very expensive. They are an investment and I don't blame them for protecting them. How about giving them the benefit of the doubt rather than being so negative? Hope their PR folks aren't checking out all the negative folks lurking here.

I hope the weather is good enough for them to march. I have always enjoyed watching the draft horses, be they Perch, Belgian or those beautiful Clydesdales.

We went out to see the horses tonight and we were told that the harness assemblies were in excess of $10,000 per horse.
I think I would keep them out of the weather too.
