Lee Alderman has been hired as executive director at the Emporia Rescue Mission, according to an announcement from Nate Terrell, chairman of the mission’s board of directors.
The appointment will be effective Sunday.
Alderman, 49, will replace Mike Paddy, a missionary with 30 years of ministry experience who was hired in October 2007.
Paddy, whose last day is today, is leaving to become pastor of a church in Oklahoma, Terrell said.
Alderman will be responsible for overall operations of the Rescue Mission, in the 1100 block of Merchant Street, and the Abundant Harvest food kitchen, 1028 Whittier St.
The Rescue Mission is an emergency shelter and rehabilitation program for indigent men. Abundant Harvest provides the evening meal Mondays through Thursdays for anyone in need in the community.
Alderman has been a missionary with the North American Mission Board and served as president of Flint Hills Technical College. Alderman and his wife, Carol, are house parents at the Shiloh Home of Hope for Women. He also is preacher at the Emporia Flying J truck stop.
Alderman is co-owner of Daystar Manufacturing, which produces folding chairs for the National Basketball Association and for tall people.
Terrell said that Alderman will bring experience both as a missionary and a business leader.
“ERM has traditionally led the industry in adherence to standards of ethics, privacy and individual responsibility, and with Lee’s guidance, we will lead again,” Terrell said.
Alderman also will work with the board to strengthen the financial aspect of the operation, as well as programming for the men who stay at ERM.
“We really like the strong life restoration model they have for the women at Shiloh and we believe it will add value to our current programs for men,” Terrell said in a news release.

This is great news!! Mike Paddy really ran the program down in the time he was there. A new person in charge with a proven track history is just what they needed!
