Flint Hills Technical College has broken another enrollment record with its summer 2008 enrollment.
Enrollment numbers on Tuesday, the first day of the summer semester, showed 197 students enrolled with a total full-time equivalency of 76.5. Full-time equivalency is calculated by dividing the total number of credit hours of enrolled students by 15. Fifteen credit hours equal one full-time student or FTE.
This time last year, FHTC’s summer enrollment was 122 with an FTE of 56. During the summer of 2006, enrollment was 99 with an FTE of 43.
“Summer enrollment is significantly higher because we are providing more to the community,” said Dean Hollenbeck, FHTC president. “We are offering general education courses that tie directly to our programs of study and are a benefit to our students and we are excited about that.
“Many of our anchor programs are offering classes this summer and we are beginning new programs,” Hollenbeck said.
Programs offering courses this summer include practical nursing, machine tool technology, paramedic, power plant technology and welding. The dental hygiene program will also start this summer with 12 new students.
