DEBI FULLER, for serving as ride captain for the area’s Patriot Guard Riders since August 2007. A farewell ceremony and barbecue are planned for this weekend.
• Courtney Culp, for being the recipient of Emporia State University’s You Make a Difference Award. Culp is a graduate teaching assistant in the social sciences department at ESU.
• The Emporia High School boys track and field team, for winning the Class 5A State Championship. The Spartans totaled 70 points to beat Bonner Springs by two points.
• Local law enforcement officers who carried the torch for Special Olympics Kansas.
• The Maid-Rite sandwich chain, which has targeted Emporia as a priority city for expanding its franchise chain.
• Former Emporian David Oakleaf, who is part of one of the seven remaining duos chosen as finalists on CMT’s “Can You Duet.”
• Emporia teachers and school staff members who are retiring at the end of this school year: Kay Neill, Eve Ott, Janice Briggs, Alice Aman, Vickie Hedrick, Cindy Stephen, Eleanor Brewer, Shelley Craig, Scharla Jones, Debra Schneider, Sherril Crow, Marvin Nance, Judy Rockley, Anita O’Dell, Rita Andersen, Jerre Hollis, David Krumme, Karen Meyers, Shirley Langley, Rita Romine, Barbara Lyons, Susan Hernandez, Carolyn Koch, Carl Stueve and James Hannon.
