I would ask how you make assumptions as to what the police do. Obviously the paper doesn't cover all the details. The job of law enforcement is to gather the facts. Its the responsibility of the courts to serve justice.

We'll see more of this as unemployed people get desperate. No cash taken, just the food? With no description, it'll be hard to catch the guy.

Without putting out a description, it makes it difficult for the public to assist in the robber's apprehension. Additionally, other pizza delivery people (and the general public) have no information with which to judge who might present a public threat. I suspect that the police department provided that information to the media (height, weight, race, gender, clothing, etc.) but the media is not putting it out. Therefore, is there anyone out there that knows this information that can share it on this forum?

As our economy gets worse, we can expect more than just pizza to be stolen. Watch yourselves, Emporia. Do you have a locking gas cap?

In my neighborhood this week, my granddaughter's pickup was broken into and a thief stole a lousy five bucks that she had stashed in the ashtray. The pickup was parked in the driveway! Two doors north, somebody broke into my neighbor's tool box on his pickup and stole tools. We reported the thefts. Not that $5 makes a diff, but if there is a trend, maybe the reports will help. Who knows.

I keep my garage door down and locked even when I am at home. Pawn shops are doing a land-office business these days. I've begun to wonder about my garden.

pawn shops have to report everything they buy and check it against stolen things

I understand that, Slipandslide, but when my camera was stolen a few years ago, the police said, "You might check the pawn shops." The same thing was said when my neighbor's two rifles were stolen.

The cops I talk to tell me it is not uncommon for a victim of an armed robbery to not be able to give a very specific description. If that is the case and all they can tell you is that it is a male of medium build, medium weight and medium color hair, what good is that? It would have been helpful if the press release had stated no description was available. On the other hand, maybe they already know who it is and they don't want to tip off the suspect.

Very good explanation, justthefacts. My original entry was to make a point and flush out a rumor that the police department had adopted a policy to not put out a description if the suspect was of a minority race; in other words, political correctness to the extreme. I honestly don't know if this is correct or not. If it is simply a case where no description is available or they know who it is, it is reasonable to withhold that information. It is not reasonable to withhold it in cases where it would assist the public, but would be politically incorrect to put it out. Thanks for your entry.
