GOP women’s board to meet

The spring board meeting of the Kansas Federation of Republican Women will be held May 31, beginning with registration and refreshments at 9 a.m. at the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50. Lunch will be at 12:15 p.m. after the official meeting which begins at 9:30 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Rae Lynne Chornecky of the National Federation of Republican Women, fourth vice president from Arizona and Region 3 regional director, making her official visit to the meeting. Also attending will be National Republican Committee Woman Alicia Salisbury of Topeka. The host clubs are the Lyon County Republican Women and Santa Fe Trail Republican Women of North Lyon County.

Checking driver’s licenses

Officers of the Emporia Police Department will be conducting a driver’s license checkpoint Friday in Emporia. Lt. Larry Adams said in a press release that the checkpoint is designed to identify drivers who are operating a vehicle in violation of driving with a suspended or revoked, having no driver’s license or violating the restrictions of their driver’s license. The purpose of this checkpoint and any future checkpoints are to reduce the number of unlicensed drivers in Emporia.

Tea for EHS girls

The P.E.O. Council of Emporia was the host on May 8 for a tea given to recognize high school girls on the honor roll at their respective schools in Lyon County. The tea was at the Emporia home of Joyce French.
