TES MEHRING, who was named ESU’s provost and vice president for academic affairs. Mehring was dean of ESU’s Teachers College and she replaces John Schwenn.
• Nishat Yasmin, who will represent Kansas in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
• Cheryl Patton, director of Lyon County Retired and Senior Volunteers, who was named the Business Associate of the Year for Emporia’s chapter of the American Business Women’s Association.
• Aldo Sandoval, who earned second place in the Institute’s Best Teen Chef in America competition. He received a full ride scholarship to the International Culinary Schools of The Art Institutes in Dallas, Texas.
• Jerry and Nancy Thomas, who gave a $50,000 donation to the TFI Family Services.
