Memorial ceremony

Memorial Day services will be held at the All-Veterans Memorial in Emporia starting at 9:15 a.m. Monday. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 are in charge of services. Music will begin at 9:15 a.m. and the ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the raising of the colors. The Emporia Municipal Band will play the National Anthem, followed by an opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest speakers will include Sen. Jim Barnett and Rep. Peggy Mast. A memorial roll call will be read.
Other guests include the three-member crew of the helicopter on display at the memorial — Ed Venable, Jim Williams and Gary Hennessy.
The VFW color guard and firing squad will be at the Americus Cemetery at 11 a.m. for a public memorial service. In case of rain, the morning ceremony will be at the VFW post home, 920 Graphic Arts Road.
