Lyon County will hold a public hearing in June for the county’s five-year bridge replacement plan.
Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer, discussed the five year plan with county commissioners. The plan was previously submitted to the Kansas Department of Transportation and needs to have two bridges added to it, Woods said. The bridges up for consideration are on Road K north of Road 190 and on Road 330, east of Road S-5. Woods said the county has about $1.7 million available for the five-year plan and must add two bridges to make that total.
The other bridges approved earlier this year on the plan include: Road Z, north of Road 340; Road X, north of Road 370; Road 260, east of Road M; Road G, north of Road 30; Road 30, east of Road J; Road E, south of Road 60; and Road 82 just east of Road P5. Fifteen culverts around the county also are on the list for replacement.

• Lougene Marsh, executive director of the Flint Hills Community Health Center, spoke to commissioners about a contract with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for food safety inspection contracts. This contract likely will end in October when the duties of food safety inspections are turned over to the Kansas Department of Agriculture. A law was passed and will go into effect on Oct. 1 to turn those duties over to that agency, Marsh said.
