Former Lady Hornet hired as Topeka High’s coach

Former Emporia State women’s basketball player Shanna (Spann) Perine has been hired as the Topeka High girls basketball coach.

Perine, who played at ESU from 1994-98, is fourth all-time in assists with 604 in her career.

She previously had coached at three high schools in Kansas: She was an assistant at Shawnee Heights for four years, the head coach at Rock Creek for three years and an assistant at Topeka West for one.

Perine replaces Larry Zientara, who retired from coaching at the end of last season.

Topeka High finished last year with a 6-15 record.
