The Chase County boys golf team finished fifth out of six teams at the sand greens State Tournament on Monday at the Mankato Country Club.
Chase County carded a team score of 331 to finish 20 strokes ahead of sixth-place Chase (351), while Rock Hills won the team title with a 282.
David Jones was the highest finisher for Chase County, as he placed fourth with a 69. J.J. Murawski also placed in the top 20, finishing in a tie for 20th with an 83.
Former Lady Hornet hired as Topeka High’s coach
Former Emporia State women’s basketball player Shanna (Spann) Perine has been hired as the Topeka High girls basketball coach.
Perine, who played at ESU from 1994-98, is fourth all-time in assists with 604 in her career.
She previously had coached at three high schools in Kansas: She was an assistant at Shawnee Heights for four years, the head coach at Rock Creek for three years and an assistant at Topeka West for one.
Perine replaces Larry Zientara, who retired from coaching at the end of last season.
Topeka High finished last year with a 6-15 record.
