I’ve had the privilege to work with the Americus Sesquicentennial Book Committee the past year. This involved research on histories of Americus families from 1857 through 2007. Having been born three miles northwest of Americus in 1929, I grew up around many descendants of the early settlers as well as more recent families.
I sincerely thank the personnel of the Lyon County Historical Society and the Americus Library for their support and help, as well as the members of the book committee.
A special thanks is due to the local families we have contacted and their contribution of family historical records. We have tried to be as accurate as possible in the writings we have put in the book.
In my phoned contact with these families, I have enjoyed visiting with old friends and hopefully made some new ones, too. An apology is due to families left out, but I believe anyone who purchases this book will appreciate its historical value and its dedication to our past and our future.
The book will be available later this month. Order forms are available at the Americus Library, the Americus City Office and KansasLand Bank.
