Only one Emporia High athlete advanced to the second day of the State swimming and diving meet in Topeka on Friday.
Senior diver Hayley Fry is the lone EHS participant left in the field, as the other Emporia High athletes competing did not qualify for second swims or dives.
Fry is in 11th place out of the top 20 divers who moved on to today’s round of dives. Junior Carissa Schmitz finished 21st and sophomore Aubrey Armitage was 26th.
In the swimming events, Hilary Larson finished 24th in both the 200 (2:05.38) and 500 (5:39.50) freestyle events, while Caitlin McGuire came in 22nd in the 100 freestyle (58.01) and 25th in the 50 free (26.22).
The 200 freestyle relay team of Larson, McGuire, Whitney Starr and Kathryn Scherich finished 20th (1:47.75) and the 400 free relay team of Larson, McGuire, Starr and Michelle Thomson placed 21st (4:00.19).
The top 16 finishers in the swimming events qualified for a second swim today.
