Central Mo. takes 7-4 victory over Wayne State

The Central Missouri Mules took Game One of the Central Regional with a 7-4 victory over Wayne State.

The Mules scored four runs in the third inning and added three in the eighth to close out the win.

Chris Brown and Luis Perez led the Mules’ offensive attack, as each went 2-for-4 at the plate, with Brown collecting two RBI and Perez driving in one. Iain Dykins also hit a home run for his only hit of the game.

Alex Koch went 3-for-3 with a home run to pace the Wildcats. Ian Delaet added two RBI for the Wildcats, who got as close as three runs twice in the ballgame but could draw no closer.

Mark Carey took the win for the Mules to move to 10-1 on the season. Chris Matlock picked up his 10th save of the season for UCM in the win.

Central Missouri advances to face Nebraska-Omaha at 7 tonight, while Wayne State will meet Emporia State at 3:30 p.m. today.

Nebraska-Omaha 2, Minn. State-Mankato 1

Nebraska-Omaha scratched across runs in the fifth and seventh innings and then held off a Minnesota State-Mankato comeback to pull out a 2-1 victory.

Both pitchers went the distance, as Chris Kessinger picked up his 11th victory of the season for the Mavericks, giving up just six hits and no walks while striking out five, while Minnesota State-Mankato’s Chris Odegaard gave up both earned runs on six hits.

For UNO, Dustin Koca and Bryan Frew each came through with RBI, while Brian Goliber and Jeremy Klein each scored a single run each.

Minnesota State-Mankato’s Travis Taran came through with an RBI hit that scored Kosuke Hattori in the top of the ninth, but that would be as close as MSU would get.

Nebraska-Omaha will face Central Missouri at 7 tonight while Minnesota State-Mankato will face Concordia-St. Paul game at noon today.
