ALEX BONNET, who claimed the state championship in oration at the state speech tournament.
• Emporia State University softball players Samantha Sheeley and Miranda Campbell, who were both chosen as Daktronics first team All-North Central Region.
• Brandon Childs, who won a car as part of the 2008 Renaissance Vehicle Award program. The car is given by the Emporia New Car Dealers Association and the program rewards students for attendance, grades and good behavior.
• Aron Dody, who will be the new principal at Americus Elementary school.
• The ESU softball team, which beat Winona State and advanced to the College World Series.
• Austin Jacob Umana and Ayla Moreno, who were crowned Cinco De Mayo Festival Little King and Queen.
• John Mallon, who received the J. Warren Brinkman Historic Preservation Award for his work for restoring the Granada Theatre and the Kress Center.
• Leona Travis, who set up a new scholarship at ESU to support students of music and foreign language.
