Friday Thoughts is a light-hearted commentary.
Last week, our neighbors sent us a letter. They live up the road a quarter mile from us, but their mailbox sits only three inches away from our mailbox. Just think of the trip that letter had to make to get to us.
The neighbors put the letter in their mailbox, which, again, is only three inches away from ours. It was picked up by the mailman and taken to the post office downtown. Then the letter was taken to Topeka to receive a postmark. The letter was sent back to the Emporia Post Office, sorted and put on a mail truck to be delivered to our house. The letter was mistakenly delivered to another neighbor’s mailbox down the road. That neighbor got in his truck to drive the letter to our house.
The letter announcing our neighbor’s graduation party must have traveled more than 150 miles to be delivered to our mailbox, which — did I mention? — is only three inches away from our neighbors’ mailbox. I am not much of a logistics person, but I guess I am thankful the post office increased postage rates only a penny this week.

I think it's technically illegal to put stuff in other people's mailboxes. I'm not sure, maybe a postal worker can answer that one. We've received mail from neighbors too. I'm cheap and will drop a card off on the way by the house in question.
