FHTC Foundation holds recognition dinner

The Flint Hills Technical College Foundation held its annual recognition dinner May 7. The evening is a wonderful way for donors and scholarship recipients to come together. Scholarship recipients are able to thank the donors for their generosity and the donors are able to meet and learn about the students that they are supporting.

Several special recognitions were given to during the evening. Flint Hills Club recognition was given to Coca-Cola/Classic Vending, Rotary Club of Emporia, Stouse, Inc., Dale and Carolyn Davis, Jane and Bernard Reeble Foundation for their contributions. Contributors to the Manufacturer’s Scholarship Fund and the newly established Construction Technology Scholarship Fund were also recognized. Prairie Winds Club recognition was given to several contributors including “Treasure Quest” major event sponsors.

FHTC awards several institutional scholarships sponsored by individuals, organizations, and businesses. Institutional scholarships recognized were Joe Markowitz Honorary Construction Technology Scholarship, Tony Hill Memorial Automotive Scholarship, and the Francis Walters Hospitality and Culinary Arts Scholarship, and the Emporia’s Home Team Scholarship. .

A highlight of the evening is hearing from scholarship recipients. Loran Martin, computer program design and development student; Alicia Rangel, graphic art student; and Sheri Wright, business administrative technology student, spoke of the value of their scholarships and how they have impacted their lives. This year, 131 scholarships and awards in the amount of $76,117 were awarded to 81 recipients.
