6 Hornets earn All-Region honors

The No. 5 Emporia State baseball team landed six players on the Daktronics All-Central Region team, including four players on the first team.

Catcher Keith Hernandez, who was the unanimous choice for MIAA Player of the Year, also earned Regional Player of the Year honors.

Joining Hernandez on the first team were outfielders Brian Majors and Eric Shortell and pitcher Tyler Applehans.

Earning second-team honors were Hornet center fielder Conner Crumbliss and relief pitcher Aaron Burris.

10 ESU athletes receive National bids

Ten Emporia State athletes have been accepted to compete in 11 events at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif.

Brooke Kent has been accepted in three events while Jonel Rossbach and Kenton Lonberger each have been accepted in two events.

Rossbach is ranked in the top four in the two events she is entered in. She is third in the 10,000-meter run and fourth in the 5,000.

Jennifer Robinson is ranked fourth in the high jump but is just one centimeter behind the national leader.

Connie Philips is ranked eighth in the javelin and earned All-America honors in the event as a freshman in 2005.

Kent is ranked 12th in the long jump, 20th in the 100-meter dash and 21st in the 200.

Three Hornet men were accepted in the high jump. Dustin Andrews is ranked fifth, Alex Pyle is 10th and Craig Saalfeld is ranked 13th in the event.

Josh Honeycutt is ranked fourth in the triple jump and will be joined by 13th-ranked Matt Koelling.

Lonberger is ranked 10th in the 200 and 21st in the 100.
