Fire Station 2 report
An architectural firm’s report on Fire Station No. 2 will be delivered at the city commission’s May 28 work session, Fire Chief Jack Taylor said Monday.
In February, the city hired Treanor Architects of Topeka to examine the 29-year-old fire station, which has had problems with uneven settling, insufficient space, ventilation and other issues. Treanor was to study both the cause of the station’s problems and what would be the most cost-effective solution: rebuilding the station on the existing site, renovating it or building a new facility at 1220 Hatcher St.
“I would just tell you at this point that it’s not complete, and I don’t want to say anything until it’s complete,” Taylor said. “So we’re just waiting on ... some last-minute information to come in and all to make that report complete before we say a whole lot.”
Taylor said he has preliminary data regarding the evaluation of the building, but no true cost estimates yet.
School official resigns
Eric Tincher, Flint Hills Technical College’s director of enrollment management and placement, has resigned to become dean of student development for Neosho County Community College. He will begin the new job this summer; his final day at the tech college has not yet been set, he said.
“I love Emporia. This is very hard for me,” Tincher said. “I’m taking a new challenge, a new chapter in my life.”
Tincher graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master of science in counseling with emphasis in higher education. He has been at the tech college since 1998, taking a break in 2005 for a tour of duty with the Kansas Air National Guard in Iraq.
