Emporia State Federal Credit Union’s members living on the northwest side of town will soon get what they wanted: A branch closer to them.
The credit union is building near 24th Avenue and Industrial Road, which manager Angie Miller said was the result of a request from membership. The credit union will still use its main location at 310 W. 12th Ave.
Miller said the new location was perfect for their customers.
“We have a large penetration of members at the high school, the middle school, Timmerman and the Flint Hills Tech College,” Miller said. “And so we’ve been looking for property in that area for awhile, and we were fortunate enough to purchase the 24th and Industrial property.”
She said the second facility was a few years in the making. Negotiations began with Presbyterian Manor to purchase the property in March 2007. Construction is still in the design phase, and the credit union’s building committee and board are in the first stages of deciding what services the building will have, she said.
“We’re doing a lot of research,” Miller said. “We’ve done a lot of visits to other financial institutions. We’re getting ideas from the membership of what they’d like to see there.
“I can tell you there’ll be an ATM there, that’s for sure.”
Dirt work is being done on the grounds now to raise the elevation. Mitchell-Markowitz Construction is handling the building of the project, Miller said.
