The Emporia State baseball team will open play in the Central Regional at 7 p.m. on Thursday against Concordia-St. Paul at the Trusler Sports Complex.
The fourth-ranked Hornets are the No. 1 seed in the tournament after posting a 48-8 record heading into the Regional. Concordia-St. Paul is the tournament’s sixth seed.
This is the second time in the last three years that the Hornets have played host to a Regional tournament and the third time overall. In 2006, Emporia State won the Regional in Emporia to advance to the College World Series.
Other games on Thursday will feature third-seeded Wayne State against fourth-seeded Central Missouri at noon, followed by No. 2-seeded Nebraska-Omaha against No. 5-seeded Minnesota State at 3:30 p.m.
Should Emporia beat Concordia-St. Paul, the Hornets would play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. If ESU loses, it will play at noon on Friday.
