Energy U-12s take 2nd at Winfield tourney

The 12-and-under Emporia Energy went 5-2 on its way to winning the silver medal at a tournament in Winfield this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Energy defeated the Derby Dynamite twice and got a victory over Augusta, while on Sunday, Emporia beat the Renegades twice but couldn’t get past the Diamond Divas, falling twice.
The Energy opened up strong in its first game on Saturday with an 11-4 victory over Derby. Kate Decker led the charge against the Dynamite, hitting a triple and scoring three runs. Emily Giffin had a triple and scored twice along with Ashley Jackson and Katie Weiser.
Giffin got the win in the circle.
In Game Two, Emporia defeated Augusta, 8-4.
Jackson had a triple to lead the way offensively, while pitcher Amanda Crone got the win.
In the third game of the day, the Energy shut down the Dynamite again, winning 6-3.
Giffin scored three of Emporia’s six runs and pitched her way to the victory. Crone added two doubles to the cause.
In the first game on Sunday, the Energy ran into a tough Renegades team and managed to come out on top with a 7-5 win.
