Q I noticed that the berming and trees have been removed near the new Hill’s Pet Food plant at the corner of Weaver and Logan Avenue. Isn’t there a city ordinance that requires those types of areas to be bermed or have trees?
A Hill’s is building a bigger, better berm.
City Manager Matt Zimmerman said that covenants established by Emporia Enterprises required the four-foot berms, which have been removed and will be replaced.
“The ordinance approving the conditional use permit the city approved for Hill’s requires them to install six-foot berms abutting all of Logan and Road M5 to help screen the property,” Zimmerman said. “ ... To help with the screening, Hill’s is also required to plant trees behind or in front of the berm, in addition to installing the berms.”
