10 Hornets named to All-MIAA squad

The Emporia State baseball team placed 10 players on the All-MIAA squad, incluing a league-high six first-teamers. Also, Keith Hernandez was a unanimous selection for the Player of the Year, while coach Bob Fornelli was named Coach of the Year after leading ESU to a 48-8 record.
The six Hornets on the first team were: Tyler Applehans, Keith Hernandez, Anthony Dreiling, Eric Shortell, Brian Majors and Conner Crumbliss.
Hernandez leads the MIAA in batting (.475), slugging percentage (.899), on-base percentage (.570), walks (33) and RBI per game (74).
Applehans leads the MIAA in victories (10) and is third in earned-run average (3.47). He won his first nine decisions on the mound for ESU this season.
Dreiling is batting .361 with six home runs and 47 RBI and has just eight errors in 220 chances this season for a .964 fielding percentage.
Shortell smashed the MIAA’s single-season home run record, belting out 22 to break the old record of 20. He has 29 stolen bases and a league-high 85 RBI while batting .372.
Majors knocked out 105 hits to set the MIAA’s single-season hits record and is second to Hernandez in batting (.449).
Crumbliss, despite missing 21 games because of an injury early in the season, is batting .428 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI.
Four Hornets were named honorable mention All-MIAA: Brock Nehls, Richard Timbrook, Aaron Burris and Kevin Wempe.
