The Emporia State women’s team had its season come to an end with a 5-2 loss to Northwest Missouri State in the second round of the North Central Regional on Friday.
ESU couldn’t overcome a slow start, losing two of its three doubles matches.
The No. 1 tandem of Marcela Bayon and Natalie Villaflor came away with an 8-2 victory, but the No. 2 team of Molly Bowman and Kirsten Ford lost, 8-3, and the No. 3 team of Amanda Morris and Audrey Sherman also fell, 8-1.
Villaflor had ESU’s only singles victory, picking up a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 2 singles over Veronica Castilla.
Northwest, however, took wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to clinch the match.
ESU (14-5) ended its season one win short of its second straight appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16.
Bayon, Villaflor, Sherman and Bowman all played their final collegiate matches as seniors.
