Americus City meeting

The City of Americus will hold the monthly business meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. The agenda includes yearly appointments, 2009 budget requests, building variance for Gary Adcock, lease agreement with Cross Roads Wireless, discussion of the 2009 Fireboard budget, resignation of council member Huddlestun.

Toledo Township High School Alumni Banquet

The 85th annual Toledo Township High School Alumni Banquet will be held May 24 at the Saffordville Community Building. Social hour and registration will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The class of 1958 will be the honored class. Deadline for reservations is May 17. There will be no reservations at the door. All former teachers, non-alumni students and their spouses are welcome. Donations are also welcome. Send reservations and donations to Cliff Bender, 724 Garfield St., Emporia, KS 66801.

Americus Alumni Banquet

The Americus Alumni Banquet will be held May 24 at the Americus school attendance center. Social hour will be at 5:30 p.m. and dinner, 6:30 p.m. The cost is $8 each plate; alumni dues are $5. Reservations are due by May 22 at the Kansasland Bank (620) 443-5163 or by calling Betty Brown at (620)443-5266. Those attending are to give year of graduation when making reservations. A book about Americus history, since the town started 150 years ago, is being written. The book will contain many pictures, generations of families, high school graduates, sports accomplishments of the school, the founding fathers, rural schools, nicknames, churches, from the past to present. The price is $25, of if mailed, $30. Orders are being taken by Elizabeth Voorhees at 342-5707. Some books will also be on sale at the banquet.
