A man accused of involuntary manslaughter waived his right to a preliminary hearing this morning in Lyon County District Court.
Ferman Hernandez, 31, was charged in the accidental shooting of his friend, Alfonso Barajas Sr., 50. The shooting occurred on March 21, in an area fenced for farm animals at a home in the 1400 block of East Logan Avenue.
Hernandez also was charged with hunting without completing a hunter education course.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, a small group of people were having a fish fry outside the home. Barajas had bent over a table to clean a wild rabbit that had been shot and apparently straightened up as Hernandez shot at birds immediately east of the group. Barajas accidentally was struck by the bullet.
No trial date has been set, according to the court. Hernandez is next scheduled in Judge Jeffry Larson’s courtroom at 2 p.m. June 6 for a pretrial hearing.
