Fire department grant
The Emporia Fire Department received a $1,000 check Thursday afternoon from the Kansas Pipeline Association, a group of more than 30 pipeline companies that have collaborated in an effort to emphasize damage prevention and promote pipeline safety in Kansas.
As a part of the group’s ongoing efforts to promote damage prevention and pipeline safety, donations were awarded to two emergency response agencies in each of the seven Homeland Security Districts in Kansas. Emporia Fire Department received $1,000 to help acquire resources that EFD needs to respond to emergencies.
Playground pickets
If you purchased a picket for the Peter Pan Park playground and it’s not on site yet, it soon will be, said Mike Dorcey, of the Peter Pan Park playground project.
“We’re still engraving pickets,” Dorcey said. “As we get more pickets engraved, we’ll swap them out for the unengraved ones that are on the fence now.”
Dorcey said while the playground was being built, the focus was on the primary structures so work on engraving was put off.
“We had to make the most of the time we had with our two consultants from the architectural firm,” Dorcey said. “That meant focusing on the playground structures themselves.”
Dorcey said volunteers have stepped up to continue to engrave and swap the pickets out. He said the process could take two or three months because there are hundreds of orders and new orders continue to pour in.
Anyone wanting a picket can fill out a form at the Emporia Chamber of Commerce or download one from www.emporia.com/playground. Pickets cost $25.
