From ESU Media Relations Students in Nancy Robohn’s music classes at Riverside Elementary School had a treat in store for them May 1. An internationally-known pianist, Jesus Maria Figueroa and three of his piano students performed for Robohn’s students as part of their visit to Emporia ahead of the city’s Cinco de Mayo celebration. Activities concluded with a public concert Monday in Heath Recital Hall
Figueroa teaches at the National School of Music in Mexico City. Joining him on the Emporia trip were three of his students, Samuel Bogran Castro, Christian Daniel Rojas Lopez and Oscar Vazquez Medrano. The concert featured music for piano by Mexican and Spanish composers.
“This is part of an exchange with their school,” said Martin Cuellar, associate professor of music at ESU. “I, along with four of my students, traveled to Mexico City during spring break to perform a concert there.”
