Exhibit in LeRoy
The Kenneth “Tarz” French collection, described as an “intriguing display,” will be on view throughout the month of May at the LeRoy Branch of the Coffey County Libraries. During 2006 and 2007, Tarz was undergoing cancer treatments at a Wichita hospital and he and his wife, Betty, had to stay close to the hospital. As a “therapeutic solution,” said the news release, Tarz began making detailed craft projects out of snack boxes like Little Debbies, Hostess Twinkies, Malted Milk Balls, tissue boxes, toilet paper rolls and many other materials. Out of these, he made cars, trucks, tractors, combines, a carousel, covered wagons, houses, a helicopter, trains and much more. He said the hospital staff “enjoyed seeing the crafts and trying to figure out all of the items used to make them ... his hobby gave visitors, patients and staff something to discuss besides health issues.”
