After stopping in Emporia on Tuesday, Clint Bowyer made a trip back to his old stomping grounds at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., to participate in the Midwest Late-model Racing Association main event on Wednesday.
After coming in second in the first heat of the night, Bowyer came out with a fifth-place finish in the 40-lap A Main event, as he never could work his way into the lead. Jermey Payne took the victory.
For most of the night, Bowyer battled with Alan Vaughn and John Anderson for the fifth spot, as the trio — along with Payne, Clint Smith, Al Purkey and Terry Phillips — pulled away from the rest of the field about midway through the race.
By Lap 26, Payne, Smith and Phillips had pulled away even further, leaving Bowyer to fight with Vaughn and Anderson for the rest of the race.
Bowyer and Vaughn got caught up with less than 10 laps remaining, with Bowyer wrestling the fifth spot away from Vaughn, and he held off all charges down the stretch to take fifth.
