Served on board

I HAD the pleasure of serving on the Board of Trustees of Newman Regional Health for eight years and I would like to respond to the article “Doctor Criticizes Hospital.”
I assure you that the administrators, medical staff, nurses, employees, volunteers and the board of Newman Regional Health all work together to provide patient care as it is the number one priority at NRH. Every decision that is made at NRH is based on answering the question, “Will this provide and/or improve safety and quality of care for our patients?” I thank all of those devoted people at NRH for putting such great devotion and care into their work.
I think our legislators need to work seriously at providing healthcare for those citizens who do not have access to it rather than criticizing those who have devoted their lives to taking great care of said citizens.

I guess unless you are on the "inside" as an employee, you can't understand what really happens there. I would suggest that the board, someone on the outside who can make a difference, go undercover as a patient or as an employee or both and do some investigation. Only then will you find out the truth.

Dorine, thank you for your service to our community. Would you not agree, however, that the governing board's information is filtered through the administration? That the governing board, as a whole, is not equipped, by education or experience, to evaluate these problems? That an outside group, without a dog in the fight, would provide more objectivity than the administration, especially given that the administration is the issue? This needs attention, pronto.
