John Cayton never has to give motivational speeches before matches against Washburn. With the rivalry the way it is, the Emporia State tennis coach says there’s no need.
Still, there will be a little more on the line Thursday when the ESU women take on Washburn during Regionals in Maryville, Mo.
For one of the senior-laden teams, this season will come to an end.
“We know we have to play Washburn again, and we’re bringing it all,” ESU senior Audrey Sherman said. “This is it.”
ESU has four seniors and WU has five, meaning Thursday’s matchup in the first round of Regionals will have quite a few women playing for their collegiate lives.
