Masonic Lodge awards
Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 will present 25- , 50-, 60- and 70-year pins, awards and charities on Friday. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., with awards presented at 7 p.m. To make reservations, call 342-3913 between 12:30 and 4 p.m.
Recycling schedule
The last visit for the recycling trailer at Northern Heights High School will be Thursday. The trailer will then be moved to the youth center in Allen for the summer. The first stop at the center in Allen will be May 22. The trailer will then return on every other Thursday. The schedule will be posted at the child development center in Allen.
Road 110 re-opens
Road 110 between Roads G and H re-opened late Monday afternoon, according to an announcement from the Lyon County Road and Bridge Department.
Strawn reunion
The Strawn school reunion and homecoming for 2008 will be held May 24 at the Burlington High School in Burlington. Registration and social hour begin at 3:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., after which there will be a program. All former high school and grade school students and teachers, family and friends and anyone having a connection to Old Strawn are invited. Reservations are $9 each and due by Saturday. Republican women
The spring board meeting of the Kansas Federation of Republican Women will be held at 9:30 a.m. May 31 at the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50. Registration will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Lunch will be after the official meeting. The keynote speaker will be Ray Lynne Chornecky, fourth vice president and Region 3 regional director. Hostesses are members of the Lyon County Republican Women and Santa Fe Trail Republican Women’s Club.

Tax payments due
The second half payments of real estate and personal property taxes are due Saturday to avoid penalties. A postmark of May 10 is accepted. The Lyon County treasurer’s office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays for people to pay in person.
Motorcycle awareness
ABATE of Kansas District 12 will host a motorcycle awareness rally at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Guion Showcase parking lot, Sixth Avenue and Prairie Street. The organization invited people to come out to help promote safety and awareness.
