Community supper
The annual Spring Mound Ridge Community Supper was held April 25, 2008, at the Community Center, sponsored by C.S.G. extension unit with 31 people attending. The community unit C.S.G. derived its name by taking the first letters of three school districts in the area, Columbia, Sunnyridge and Chicago Mound. The unit was organized Oct. 17, 1946. Many have asked what the initials meant.
George Arnett gave the invocation for the food — sliced sweet potatoes, fresh asparagus, casseroles of chicken, potatoes and lasagna, meat dishes, barbecued meatballs and chicken, various jello dishes, “yummy” chocolate and whipped cream and pudding desserts and cherry cheesecake.
Alice Blankley asked volunteers to choose dates for the mowing schedule. A report was given on building maintenance by Shirley VanSickle and a freewill donation was taken to help with expenses.
Ethel Hodges brought the speakers, Joe and Virginia Soyez, who work as volunteers in disaster areas with the Salvation Army. They showed pictures on the computer and told about areas and experiences where they traveled, their work at the Canteen wagon and counselling people in tough times. They have served in New Orleans, Biloxi, Miss., and Greensburg, sometimes having to go out in the middle of the night to gather supplies and gear to take in the Canteen.
The next meeting will be the fourth Friday in October.
