The Emporia High baseball team committed a combined 15 errors in two games on Friday at the Blue Valley West tournament, losing Game One to the host school, 12-3, before falling in the second game to Olathe East, 16-1.
“The bottom line is we gave up too many outs in both games,” EHS coach Mike Strickland said. “We just didn’t play good defense. We gave up five or six outs every inning, and when you give up extra outs, teams are going to score runs.”
Blue Valley West got out to a 6-0 lead in the first game before EHS managed to plate three runs in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit in half at 6-3.
Dominic Rodriguez led off the third with a double, and after a strikeout by Harrison Stone, Brian Keisler drew a walk to put two on for Corey Bacon. Bacon hit a double of his own to drive in Rodriguez and Keisler to make it 6-2.
