Rossbach earns bid to Nationals in 1,500-meter run

Emporia State’s Jonel Rossbach recorded an automatic qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run, leading the Hornets’ track and field team at the Bobby Lane Invitational on Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
Rossbach recorded a time of 4:30.10 in the event to finish second. It also was the second-best time in school history.
ESU’s Kenton Lonberger added provisional qualifying marks in the 100- and 200-meter runs.
The freshman was fourth in the 100 (10.64 seconds) and fifth in the 200 (21.46 seconds).
Brooke Kent had the other provisional qualifier with her fifth-place showing in the high jump (18 feet, 6 inches).
Alex Pyle was the only ESU athlete to win an event, taking an individual title in the high jump with his leap of 6 feet, 8 inches.
ESU’s other top five performances came from Skyler Delmott (second, 3,000-meter steeplechase), Dustin Andrews (third, high jump), Damon Birk (third in shotput, fourth in discus), Jennifer Robinson (fourth, high jump), Connie Philips (fifth, javelin), Jaclyn Sill (fifth, 400-meter dash) and the men’s 4x100 relay team (fifth).
ESU will be host to the State Farm Relays this Saturday at the Zola Witten Track at Welch Stadium.
