Lyon County Commissioner Marshall Miller announced at Saturday’s Eggs & Issues forum that he would not be running for re-election this fall.
Miller publicly made the announcement Saturday at the forum, which is sponsored by the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters. Saturday’s political forum featured the Lyon County Commission.
Miller said he had made other commitments that led him to his decision not to run again.
“I’ve made commitments to myself and family members,” he said. “I’m not a candidate.”
Miller has been on the commission since 2001.
“When I started in 2001, the first year we went into recession and I think we’re in a recession now,” Miller said, adding jokingly that maybe there should be some new commissioners on the board because of his time beginning and ending in a recession.

Marshall, you've done a good job. Thank you for your service. Although I disagree with you on consolidation of law enforcement, otherwise you have been an exceptionally good commissioner, and the county is better because of it.
