The Emporia High girls soccer team lost, 2-0, to Kapaun Mt. Carmel in the third-place game of the Blue Bracket of the Titan Classic in Wichita on Saturday.
Kapaun scored single goals in both halves, out-shooting the Lady Spartans 11-4 in shots on goal for the game.
It was the first half that had EHS coach John Decker displeased, as Kapaun out-shot EHS 8-0 in the first 40 minutes and physically dominated the game. Decker pointed to his team’s zero fouls in the first half as evidence of the way Kapaun controlled the game.
After halftime, Decker said his squad came back and showed more fight, but EHS could not break through for any scores.
“In the second half, we decided to actually show up and play,” he said. “We were more aggressive and created some scoring opportunities. Our defense played a very tough, physical match.”
The Lady Spartans (1-2) are back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on Blue Valley West.
