Backs Winter

PHIL WINTER has filed for a seat on the Lyon County Commission. It is not clear why he would leave a stress-free and pleasant retirement to return to the storm center on Commercial Street, except he has always been a dedicated public servant.
Mr. Winter’s qualifications were outlined in the recent article in The Gazette. It is clear he is one of the most qualified persons ever to file for the commission. He is a recognized expert in county government in Kansas. He is making a valuable asset available to the voters of Lyon County — himself.
His knowledge and years of experience in county government make him a rare and unusual resource most counties do not have.
It is like being able to hire Dwight David Eisenhower to be commander of the Kansas National Guard, or William Allen White to be Dean of the William Allen White School of Journalism in Lawrence.
What a deal!

Bob Morton has hit the nail on the head. Mr. Winter is uniquely qualified to be a commissioner. He probably knows more about the history of every issue that would come before the commission than anyone else in the County. Having that historical perspective from which to make decisions would be a real asset to Lyon County. And Mr. Winter is a well-educated, intelligent, thoughtful individual. Lyon County is fortunate to have such a candidate. I hope the voters are savvy enough to elect him to the post.
